V.I.P.E.R. 01 (Virtually Indestructible Perfectly Engineered Robot) was a box-shaped robot with a rear wedge that entered Series 5 of Robot Wars. It was invertible with a 3kg, stainless steel cutting disc and could travel at 15mph, but this didn't help as it lost its only battle against the seeded Splinter. Part of Liverdyne Robotics, V.I.P.E.R. 01 came from an experienced team, who had previously entered with the first middleweight champion, Hard Cheese, in several wars. V.I.P.E.R. 01 was similar to the Extreme 1 version of Hard Cheese.

V.I.P.E.R. 01 was originally built to enter Series 3 under the name The Big Cheese (not to be confused with Roger Plant's machine from the same series) but was not finished in time. Its originally planned weapon was a pickaxe, similar to the Series 3 version of Hard Cheese, in place of the cutting disc. The axe head would have the team mascot "Verminator" impaled on the end.

V.I.P.E.R. 01 attended the Series 4 qualifiers, but had to withdraw after burning out all its FET's. The team fought V.I.P.E.R. 01's battles with Hard Cheese instead, beating More Panda Monium, and losing to Ming 2. Ultimately, neither robot qualified.

Series 5Edit

After running out of power in the qualifiers, V.I.P.E.R. 01 was modified so that the battery expiry was longer. However, this reduced its speed drastically.

V.I.P.E.R. 01 participated in Heat I of the Fifth Wars, and had an unfortunate draw as it came up against the number 17 seeds Splinter in the first round of the heat. In the battle, V.I.P.E.R. 01 started very slowly and was immediately grabbed by Splinter's pincers. Splinter used its axe to little effect and pushed V.I.P.E.R 01 into Shunt. Shunt used its own axe to dent V.I.P.E.R. 01's armour, which managed to stand up well against Shunt's powerful axe. Splinter then pushed it into Shunt again. Shunt then pushed V.I.P.E.R 01 across the arena floor and continued to axe it, eventually pushing it onto the flame pit. V.I.P.E.R 01 managed to stay mobile until the end of the battle, but the judges' decision obviously resulted in a win for Splinter, subsequently eliminating V.I.P.E.R. 01 from the competition.
