Trouble 'n' Strife was the original machine of Team Forsey, which competed in Series 5 of Robot Wars. It lost the first round - and its only battle - to Wild Thing, after a very close judges' decision.
The robot's name, Trouble 'n' Strife, is cockney slang for "wife."
Team Forsey later entered Series 6 and 7 of Robot Wars and the Annihilator of Robot Wars Extreme: Series 2 with Revenge of Trouble & Strife, and Series 8 and 9 with M.R. Speed Squared.
Design
Trouble 'n' Strife was a tall box-wedge shaped robot designed to resemble an alligator, featuring a CO2 powered flipper at the front and a two-toothed, 20kg, 1000RPM spinning disc at the rear. The flipper was capable of flipping Wild Thing with ease, though the robot suffered from a sluggish turning circle and had no srimech.
Trouble 'n' Strife's biggest drawback was that it was back-heavy (where the disc was). This meant that the drive wheels had no traction and may have contributed to its large turning circle.
- "Trouble and strife was decent...(but) We decided to start again from scratch because the drive wheels had no traction as most of the weight was over the back..."
- — Team Forsey Facebook page[1]
Qualification
Trouble 'n' Strife qualified for the main series after defeating Warriors Revenge on the live tour. Its first opponent was Bee-Capitator. The match was very short, as both robots approached each other, and then Trouble 'n' Strife got under the bee, ending the match in one flip.
Trouble 'n' Strife's next opponent was Warriors Revenge. Warriors Revenge had no way of self-righting when flipped, so after it charged onto the flipper of its opponent, Trouble 'n' Strife secured the victory with a knockout flip, and qualified for the Fifth Wars.
Robot History
Series 5
Newcomers Trouble 'n' Strife faced a tough draw against the ninth seed Wild Thing. Wild Thing immediately ran into the rear of Trouble 'n' Strife, causing it to spin away, and caused damage as both machines hit each other with their flywheels. Trouble 'n' Strife activated its flipper while withstanding more blows from Wild Thing, allowing Wild Thing to attack its exposed internals. After more attacks on its armour, Trouble 'n' Strife began flipping Wild Thing, buckling one of its wheels in the process. After another flip which left it on its side, Wild Thing retaliated with another glancing blow on Trouble 'n' Strife, pushing it into Shunt's CPZ where it was axed by the House Robot. Trouble 'n' Strife survived to a Judges' decision, with Wild Thing narrowly taking the decision based on aggression.
