"To leave scars - three hardened steel cutters at the front. It can be driven clockwise or anti-clockwise; powered by two wheelchair motors. The only scar tissues we need? To soak up the tears of roboteer failure!"
Jonathan Pearce

Scar was a heavyweight robot which competed exclusively in Robot Wars: The Fourth Wars. Though surviving its opening Eliminator battle after Firestorm 2 flipped The Morgue over, it suffered technical issues which forced it to withdraw ahead of the second round.

Scar did not appear in any other series; as a result, it is one of the few Robot Wars competitors to have never lost a battle.

Scar was a grey, invertible two-wheel drive robot with a Y-shaped chassis, top and bottom front steel castors to enable its invertible capabilities, and silicon-filled tyres. Armoured in 3mm thick steel, its main weapon was a front cutting disc (described by Tony Adams as a 'heavy wheel') with six hardened steel cutting blades, though the robot's statistics board claims that it had three 'cutters'. Scar's low top speed of 5mph, along with its unusual shape, proved to be a hindrance in its opening match as it could not get its disc to make contact with the other robots.

Series 4[]

Appearing in Heat C of the Fourth Wars, Scar was drawn up against fellow Robot Wars debutant The Morgue along with the fifth seed Firestorm 2 in its Eliminator.

In battle, it was immediately thrown onto its back by the Third Wars third-place finisher, and hesitated for several seconds upon coming to rest by the centre entrance gate. The now-inverted Scar attempted to rejoin the action by attacking the back end of The Morgue with its cutter, but with no noticeable effect on the latter's shell. Scar reversed, only to end up backing onto and getting tipped back upright by Firestorm 2. The Leamington Spa machine continued to manoeuvre slowly across the centre of the arena, spinning around and struggling to get its disc to make contact with Firestorm 2 when the two machines drew alongside each other. Scar tried to weave its way in pursuit of both opponents, but could not dodge a ram to its left wheel from The Morgue as the latter reversed.

Scar attempted to retaliate by following The Morgue disc-first, only to be collected by Firestorm 2 and flipped over once more. More pressure from the Durham machine followed, before Firestorm 2 turned its attention towards flipping The Morgue over against the side wall, which was enough to immobilise the Welsh entry. Scar was again pushed by Firestorm 2 into the upturned Morgue, and the two remaining competitors continued fighting each other as The Morgue was attacked by the House Robots. Firestorm 2 tipped Scar upwards against the left-most wall, leaving it propped vertically on its back, though Scar had survived long enough to progress alongside its seeded opponent.

"Now look at this. Scar should've been fighting Ming 2, but they're out, and The Morgue have been reinstated. Let's go to The Pits to find out why..."
— Jonathan Pearce announces Scar's withdrawal

In the second round, Scar was set to be drawn against another Third Wars returnee in the shape of Ming 2. Prior to the fight starting, however, Chris Adams revealed that the gearboxes for both of the robot's 'motor drives' had malfunctioned, and the team were left without any replacement components. Thus, Scar withdrew and The Morgue was reinstated in its place, after which The Four Horsemen discussed their recently-formed friendship with the Scar team onscreen. Dorian Caudy later presented one of the damaged gearboxes to Julia Reed, clearly showing that the teeth had been 'stripped' from the affected gear inside.

After Robot Wars began its 12-year hiatus, Scar found itself in the possession of John Findlay from Team Roaming Robots. Scar was later sold to Craig Danby, and then to Tony Smith. In 2013, it was sold again to Jamie McHarg, also entering the ownership of Dave Lawrie in 2015. As of October 2021, Scar is back in the possession of Tony Smith at Glasgow Clyde College.

Scar appeared on display at a live event in Burgess Park in August 2023, organised by Liam Bryant of Team Bud, along with Corkscrew, Storm Force and Typhoon 2. It would also appear alongside the former two machines at RoboNerd on 2 September that same year. Scar now sports a pair of hydraulic jaws in place of its former cutting disc weapon.[1]

Trivia[]

  • Scar is one of only two robots to fight in the UK main competition and remain undefeated, the other being Ultor.
  • Had Scar fulfilled its intention to battle Hypno-Disc as implied in its 'Notes' statistics, it would have had to reach the Grand Final Eliminator stage in order to do so.
