Round 1[]

"Coming up, 8 bash-em, crash-em, smash-em specialists, split into two battles. Wicked weaponry, flamboyant flippers, evil names like The Grim Reaper. Newcomers in lurid garb to spin a dream or two. 8 compete, but only 1 makes it through!"
— Jonathan Pearce before Round 1

Kan-Opener vs The Grim Reaper vs Big Nipper vs Barbaric Response[]

The Grimreaper vs Big Nipper R1

The Grim Reaper flips Big Nipper

At the start of the battle, Barbaric Response drove at the side of Kan-Opener, which turned away, but The Grim Reaper and Big Nipper both drove up the arena, with The Grim Reaper getting at the side, and Kan-Opener tried driving away, but drove straight onto Big Nipper's lifting claws. Kan-Opener reversed of Big Nipper's lifter, but The Grim Reaper got under its side. The Grim Reaper flipped Kan-Opener, but couldn't get it over. Meanwhile, Barbaric Response chased after Big Nipper, chasing it around in a circle until it got under the side, then flipped it over.

"Good flick by Barbaric Response!"

The four competitors come together as Kan-Opener grips Barbaric Response

As it did however, Kan-Opener got behind it and gripped it with its claws, puncturing the two wheel guards. As it pulled Barbaric Response, The Grim Reaper got its flipper underneath one of its claws and flipped, but could only lift Kan-Opener and Barbaric Response up a little together. As Kan-Opener pushed and pulled Barbaric Response, Big Nipper got its lifting claws under The Grim Reaper, and started pushing it as it raised the lifter, but when Big Nipper turned, The Grim Reaper fell off the lifter. The Grim Reaper quickly turned around and flipped Big Nipper over, but Big Nipper was invertible.

"That's a good little duel going on in there between the two of them, evenly matched."
— Jonathan Pearce on The Grim Reaper and Big Nipper's tussle
Big Nipper vs The Grimreaper R1

Big Nipper pushes The Grim Reaper into an angle grinder

Big Nipper turned and drove at The Grim Reaper, but The Grim Reaper got its flipper under the lifting claws and lifted Big Nipper up, getting underneath it and pushing it around in circles, but Big Nipper managed to push back, forcing The Grim Reaper against the wall.

"...it's just wedged in underneath The Grim Reaper's flipper there, that's a good place to be, and it can then push The Grim Reaper, onto the side."
— Jonathan Pearce

Meanwhile, Kan-Opener pushed Barbaric Response down the arena, but couldn't get its crushing claws free of its opponent. The Grim Reaper turned away from the wall, and reversed away from the wall, turned around and got under Big Nipper, lifting it up, but Big Nipper slipped off the flipper as The Grim Reaper reversed. Big Nipper reversed, and The Grim Reaper chased after it, getting under the side and flipping it over again.

"That's a good little duel going on in there between the two of them, evenly matched."

GrowlerOutofCPZ

Growler comes out of his CPZ as Kan-Opener is unable to let go of Barbaric Response

The Grim Reaper tried to get under the side again, but Big Nipper reversed. The Grim Reaper chased after it, but it drove straight onto the lifting claws and missed a flip. Big Nipper tried lifting The Grim Reaper, but as it turned, The Grim Reaper slid off the claws. The Grim Reaper drove after Big Nipper, but Big Nipper got underneath with its claws and pushed The Grim Reaper into the arena wall, pinning it against an angle grinder. As it did so, it tried lifting The Grim Reaper, but over-balanced forwards, but it still had its front two wheels on the ground so could still push. Big Nipper reversed a little, and tried lifting The Grim Reaper again, but overbalanced again, so could only push The Grim Reaper back against the angle grinder. Big Nipper reversed, and The Grim Reaper fell off the claw. The Grim Reaper tried to get under the side of Big Nipper, but Big Nipper turned, causing The Grim Reaper to miss. Meanwhile, despite pushing it and pulling it around the arena, Kan-Opener still could not get free of Barbaric Response, and Growler charged down the arena at Barbaric Response, driving into Big Nipper as it reversed away from The Grim Reaper.

"...Kat-Nip there charged at us and their jaws closed in on our safety link through the polycarbonate cover - our challenge was over almost before it had begun, Kat-Nips hydraulics burst when the jaws met out chassis."
— Barbaric Response website, incorrectly referring to Kan-Opener as Kat-Nip[1]

Kan-Opener grapples with Barbaric Response

Big Nipper tried to get its claws under the front of Barbaric Response as Kan-Opener pulled it back into an angle grinder, driving into the arena wall as it did so. Growler rammed into the side of Barbaric Response, but the two competitors were still stuck together, and Kan-Opener pulled Barbaric Response away from the wall.

"Barbaric Response, the meat in the sandwich. Kan-Opener has a grip."

Big Nipper is almost flipped into the pit

Growler then activated the pit release button with all four robots perilously close to the edge of the pit. Kan-Opener was pushing Barbaric Response towards the pit, whilst smoke was rising from Big Nipper, and it reversed dangerously close to the side as it reversed away from The Grim Reaper.

""Pit, pit, pit!" they cry! Barbaric Response could get a shove in there any moment from Kan-Opener. Can Kan-Opener get enough traction on the arena floor?"
— Jonathan Pearce as Kan-Opener tries to pit Barbaric Response

The Grim Reaper charged at Big Nipper, pushing it against Barbaric Response and flipping it over, and Big Nipper drove along the edge of the pit to get away. Kan-Opener tried pushing Barbaric Response into the pit, but Barbaric Response was able to push back in reverse each time.

"Time is ticking down. No one down the pit yet. Heave-ho! Will it go? Yes? No! It all goes to the judges!"
— Jonathan Pearce in the last few seconds
Big Nipper and The Grimreaper

Big Nipper and The Grim Reaper end the battle locked together

Meanwhile, The Grim Reaper reversed into the arena centre, and Big Nipper charged up the arena at it. The Grim Reaper tried getting its flipper under the front of Big Nipper, but Big Nipper turned, causing The Grim Reaper to miss its flip. Big Nipper turned away, accidentally drove into the arena wall, and used its lifting claws to turn itself over as it reversed. The Grim Reaper got in underneath with the flipper as it did so, but Big Nipper reversed before it could flip. The Grim Reaper chased after it, getting under the side and flipping it over, then drove away down the arena just before time ran out.

"They're marking on Control, Style, Damage and Aggression, like that from Grim Reaper. I don't think there was much damage caused, good style though, I think, all the way through from Big Nipper. Avoiding trouble and driving on, good marks there for Big Nipper. Kan-Opener, did it do enough? I don't think Barbaric Response did."
— Jonathan Pearce reviews the highlights

As The Grim Reaper's mascot watched over the judges' table, the judges made their decision and went for The Grim Reaper and Big Nipper.

Disqualification for Terrorhurtz

Senior Consultant Derek Foxwell breaks the bad news to John Reid

Before the battle, Terrorhurtz did not enter the arena. Jayne Middlemiss went to their pit table, but the team were not there. She went outside, and found that the team had arrived at the studio with the robot unfinished, and the producers disqualified it on the grounds that all robots had to be complete and combat ready upon arrival.

"Already the major shock then, the number 3 seeds have gone out!"
— Jonathan Pearce as Terrorhurtz's disqualification is confirmed
Jackson Wallop vs Gyrobot vs Killerkat

Jackson Wallop and Gyrobot team up on Killerkat

The battle itself started slowly as the three remaining robots all needed time to charge up their spinning weapons. Killerkat was the first to move, driving between Gyrobot and Jackson Wallop. Killerkat and Jackson Wallop drove at each other, hitting one another with their spinning weapons. Jackson Wallop reversed, and Killerkat turned around, but Gyrobot slammed into its side with its spinning body. As Killerkat recovered and got its spinning blade up to speed, Jackson Wallop hit the side with its spinning arm, almost knocking it onto its side. After a pause, Killerkat turned around with its blade spinning, but suddenly the chain slipped off, leaving Killerkat with no weapon and Jackson Wallop hit its with the spinning arm again. Jackson Wallop bounced close to Gyrobot, who hit the body of Jackson Wallop with its spinning body, ripping off a small part.

"They're ricocheting in there, looks like a Pinball machine out there, the arena floor."
— Jonathan Pearce as Jackson Wallop hits Killerkat, then is hit by Gyrobot

Gyrobot then tried attacking Killerkat, but the spinning body slowed to a stop on impact. Gyrobot got its spinning body back up to speed, spinning on the spot to help it spin faster, and hit the side of Killerkat again. Jackson Wallop drove to the other side and hit the front with its spinning bar. Killerkat tried to turn away, but Gyrobot hit it again.

"...they're being picked on at the moment! Little kitty, suffering from the dogs of war!"

JacksonknocksKillerkatover

Jackson Wallop knocks Killerkat onto its side

As Gyrobot moved away, Killerkat turned around, but could not move away as it had lost drive on one side as a result of the impacts from its opponent's spinners. Jackson Wallop drove around Killerkat and hit the back with its spinning bar, immobilising Killerkat. Gyrobot got the other side of Killerkat and hit it with its spinning body, knocking it into Jackson Wallop, which hit it with its spinning bar again. Gyrobot pushed at the back of Killerkat, and Killerkat weakly turned around. Gyrobot gave it a push, then drove away, and Jackson Wallop hit the side, almost knocking the robot over, and ripping one of the side panels loose. Gyrobot drove between Jackson Wallop and Killerkat and pushed Killerkat, but its spinning body was not working.

"The Refbot's just gone in there to have a look. He'll judge whether the Killerkat is still moving, or just being pushed by Gyrobot. I think the end is nigh, do you?"
— Jonathan Pearce as Gyrobot pushed Killerkat

Gyrobot pushes Killerkat onto the flame pit

Jackson Wallop got its spinning bar up to speed, and charged into the side of Killerkat, knocking the whole robot onto its side. Gyrobot continued pushing Killerkat across to the flame pit, and Jackson Wallop charged into it, but bounced off. Refbot began counting Killerkat out, and Gyrobot pushed it onto the flame pit.

"Oh don't spoil the fun, get it on the flame pit! That's it! Bring fur into the arena, you've got to expect this!"
— Jonathan Pearce as Gyrobot pushes Killerkat onto the flame pit

Killerkat is flipped onto its back

As the fur burned, Jackson Wallop slammed into the rear with its spinning bar, and Refbot finished his count. Gyrobot landed a few hits with its spinning body, then drove away. Shunt came over, but before it could push Killerkat off the flame pit, Jackson Wallop slammed into it again with its bar spinning, knocking the loose panel away. As Jackson Wallop reversed away, Shunt got behind Killerkat, pushed it off the flame pit and pushed it up the arena to the floor flipper. Killerkat was thrown across the arena, and bounced up onto its rear, so its spinning bar was pointing upwards. Cease was called, and Killerkat was eliminated.

"So, all in a stew, the Killerkat crew, on the right there. They've gone out, leaving the Jackson Wallop team, and Gyrobot in the green to go through!"

Round 2[]

Gyrobot vs The Grim Reaper[]

The grim reaper clamps gyrobot

The Grim Reaper clamps Gyrobot with its flipper

The Grim Reaper started quicker, charging at Gyrobot, as Gyrobot tried driving away to get its spinning body up to speed, but The Grim Reaper caught up with Gyrobot, flipping it up onto its side. Gyrobot span, and fell back on its wheels, next to an angle grinder. The Grim Reaper tried getting under it again, but drove into the angle grinder and missed its flip as Gyrobot turned away. The Grim Reaper turned away from the angle grinder and charged at Gyrobot, ramming it into Sir Killalot, who was crossing to the CPZ. This pushed Gyrobot onto The Grim Reaper's side, and The Grim Reaper could not get its flipper under Gyrobot. Eventually, The Grim Reaper was able to turn, causing Gyrobot to fall off, and The Grim Reaper got under Gyrobot, flipping it over against Sir Killalot. Sir Killalot pushed it away from the CPZ, and Gyrobot rammed into The Grim Reaper's front, deflecting off, but The Grim Reaper turned and got its flipper underneath, pushing it towards the wall. Gyrobot slipped away just before The Grim Reaper pushed it into the wall, causing The Grim Reaper to drive into it. The Grim Reaper recovered, and drove at Gyrobot as it tried to get its spinning body up to speed. Gyrobot reversed as The Grim Reaper tried to get underneath, then drove back at The Grim Reaper, but the spinning body merely stopped on impact, having not got up to speed enough.

"The Grim Reaper looks very purposeful"
— Jonathan Pearce as The Grim Reaper tried to get under Gyrobot
Gyrobot vs The Grimreaper

Gyrobot slips under The Grim Reaper

Gyrobot escaped across the arena, spinning up its spinning body, but The Grim Reaper chased after it, driving into Gyrobot and knocking it onto the flame pit. Gyrobot quickly got off the flame pit, but drove into Cassius Chrome, who was out of his CPZ. Gyrobot reversed away, but drove into the wall. It quickly drove at The Grim Reaper, who got underneath and flipped it over, then pushed it up the arena, using its flipper to pin Gyrobot down. The Grim Reaper pushed Gyrobot to the top arena wall, then forced it into Sir Killalot's CPZ. However, as The Grim Reaper tried to flip Gyrobot again, it fired the flipper when the flipper wasn't under Gyrobot. This caused it to jump in the air, and with a helping push from Sir Killalot, Gyrobot got underneath The Grim Reaper and pushed it into one of the arena entry gates. The Grim Reaper fell of Gyrobot, and chased it into Sir Killalot, and flipped it over onto Sir Killalot's lance.

"Ah, but the Gyrobot's in underneath now ... no it isn't! Good recovery by The Grim Reaper."
— Jonathan Pearce as Gyrobot gets under The Grim Reaper and pushes, only for The Grim Reaper to get off and flip Gyrobot

As Gyrobot fell off, Cassius Chrome came over, and Gyrobot found itself caught between the two House Robots. Sir Killalot chased it away from the CPZ, and Gyrobot drove into The Grim Reaper, but turned away before it could flip. and drove across the arena.

"For me, it's all The Grim Reaper, and Gyrobot, defensively? What do you call that tactic? I think it's called running away, that's it..."
— Jonathan Pearce as Gyrobot continues to retreat
Grim reaper vs gyrobot

The Grim Reaper flips Gyrobot over

The Grim Reaper chased after it, but Gyrobot got its spinning body up to speed, spinning on the spot to make it go even faster, so The Grim Reaper held back, then turned and reversed into The Grim Reaper. This slowed Gyrobot's spinning, and The Grim Reaper got underneath and flipped it over again. Gyrobot drove away as The Grim Reaper chased it, nearly driving into Sir Killalot, but managed to steer away. Gyrobot sped down the arena, but drove into the bottom arena wall. The Grim Reaper chased after it, and as it got close, Gyrobot tried getting away, but drove into Cassius Chrome. Gyrobot got away, whilst The Grim Reaper opened the pit. Gyrobot drove by the arena side wall, and The Grim Reaper charged after it, but as it tried to get underneath, it drove into the arena wall. It quickly reversed, got its flipper under Gyrobot and flipped it over, then pushed it up the arena, using its flipper to hold Gyrobot down. The two robots escaped from Sir Killalot in the CPZ, and Gyrobot tried spinning, but The Grim Reaper easily got the flipper underneath and flipped it over.

"The Grim Reaper again, pursuing. So if it goes to the judges, Style, Control, Damage and Aggression, for pure aggression, The Grim Reaper must have it!"
— Jonathan Pearce as The Grim Reaper chases Gyrobot

Gyrobot escaped up the arena, and managed to steer around The Grim Reaper as it chased after it, but when it drove at The Grim Reaper, The Grim Reaper merely flipped it over. The Grim Reaper drove at Gyrobot, which tried to get away, but drove into an angle grinder. Gyrobot tried driving away, but The Grim Reaper chased after it, soon catching up with it and flipping it over.

"...it'll be worrying for The Grim Reaper team should they go on, and I think they will, that they can't finish off Gyrobot!"
— Jonathan Pearce as The Grim Reaper flips Gyrobot
The Grimreaper vs Gyrobot

The Grim Reaper proves unable to KO Gyrobot

Gyrobot accidentally drove into the arena wall as it tried to get away from The Grim Reaper, and couldn't get its spinning body up to speed as it drove at The Grim Reaper. The Grim Reaper turned, and Gyrobot couldn't get away, driving back into the wall. The Grim Reaper got its flipper under again, but could only flick Gyrobot up a little. The Grim Reaper pinned Gyrobot against the angle grinder, and though Gyrobot managed to get away, it drove into Cassius Chrome. It drove straight at The Grim Reaper, deflecting off the flipper and causing The Grim Reaper to miss its flip, but Gyrobot was not able to push The Grim Reaper and its spinning body was not working, so it quickly drove away down the arena. The Grim Reaper chased after it, but Gyrobot drove past it. The Grim Reaper turned around and got the flipper under Gyrobot, but Gyrobot reversed before it could flip, and time ran out.

"Yeah, looks like it's going to go the the Judges, doesn't it? Which means that, defensively, Gyrobot have shown a lot of control - that'll count in their favour. But I don't think they've been aggressive enough. Good battle though, eh?"
— Jonathan Pearce in the last few seconds

The battle went to judges, who went for The Grim Reaper.

Big Nipper vs Jackson Wallop 2

Big Nipper grips Jackson Wallop

Jackson Wallop started by driving down the arena to get its spinning arm up to speed, then charged at Big Nipper as it drove towards it, but its spinning arm was too high off the ground to hit Big Nipper. Jackson Wallop fit perfectly within Big Nippers pincers, and as Big Nipper pushed Jackson Wallop, Jackson Wallop tried to get away, but its spinner the arena side wall. Jackson Wallop recovered, speeding down the arena, but as it turned, it swerved into Refbot and drove into the arena wall as its turned away.

"Good aggression from Jackson Wallop, there you see, can't touch Big Nipper, and bashing off the Refbot out of control as well early on! That's because of the effect of its rotating blade on top."

Big Nipper vs Jackson Wallop 3

Jackson Wallop's wheel detaches

Jackson Wallop drove at Big Nipper, but couldn't hit it, so drove away, hitting the pit release button, ripping the front of the button. Jackson Wallop drove up the arena as it got its spinning arm up to speed. Big Nipper got its pincers and pushed Jackson Wallop to the side wall, pushing it into an angle grinder. Big Nipper reversed, but before Jackson Wallop could get away, Big Nipper got its pincers around it and pushed it up the arena to Shunt, but had to swerve to avoid an axe blow. Shunt landed an axe blow on Big Nipper, which did no damage, and Big Nipper turned Jackson Wallop around. It lifted Jackson Wallop's wheels off the ground, but then lowered it and Jackson Wallop pushed back. Big Nipper reversed, ripping off one of Jackson Wallops tyres, then pushed Jackson Wallop by Shunt, who hit the top, but did not puncture. Big Nipper let go of Jackson Wallop and drove away, but Jackson Wallop could not get away because of its missing tyre.

"...one of Big Nipper's claws, wedged into one of the Jackson Wallop tyres! Yep, there look! You see it? It's come off! So that'll effect Jackson Wallop's pushing ability. That was there one main tactic! What can they do now?"
— Jonathan Pearce as Big Nipper rips off Jackson Wallop's tyre
JacksonShunt

Jackson Wallop cuts a gash in Shunt's scoop

Jackson Wallop span on the spot, and Shunt moved out of his CPZ to push it, but the spinning arm hit his scoop, causing a large gash in it. Shunt reversed, and carefully approached Jackson Wallop so the spinning arm hit the side of his scoop. This stopped the spinning arm, and Shunt axed the top, but it merely bounced off, then lifted it with his scoop. Shunt turned away, landing another ineffectual axe blow as he did so. Dead Metal came across the approach, and Shunt stopped Jackson Wallop's spinning wheel by slowly driving into it, the spinning blade hitting the scoop in the gash it had previously caused and stopping. Dead Metal brought its spinning disc into the top of Jackson Wallop, easily cutting through it. Dead Metal cut three large gashes in the top of Jackson Wallop then pulled it away from the wall, continuing to cut into the top as it pulled it across the arena.

"Oh, look at that! Might as well be plywood out there really, under the effect of that enormously powerful circular saw of Dead Metal!"

Dead Metal came over to the CPZ and cut into Jackson Wallop's top again. Dead Metal reversed, and Shunt used its plough to push Jackson Wallop free of the wall. Shunt reversed, and Dead Metal got its pincers around Jackson Wallop, pulling it away from the CPZ, then pushing it down the arena to the pit, where he dropped it in to confirm Jackson Wallop's elimination.

"A release perhaps, and sense of relief for Bernie and Helen, that their machine isn't going to sustain any more damage, and that's it! Big Nipper through to the Grand Final, bye bye Jackson Wallop!"

The Grim Reaper vs Big Nipper[]

"It's strange Craig, Big Nipper have crept through almost unnoticed, everyone's talking about The Grim Reaper."
— Jonathan Pearce before the battle
Big Nipper vs The Grimreaper

Big Nipper carries The Grim Reaper

Both robots charged straight at each other at the start of the battle, and when they came together, they each tried to get under their opponent, but then turned away. The Grim Reaper tried getting under the side of Big Nipper, but Big Nipper turned away. The Grim Reaper drove after it, trying to get under the side, but failed. The Grim Reaper drove around Big Nipper, and Big Nipper got its lifting claws under The Grim Reaper, lifting it up a little as it pushed it into the CPZ, but drove in itself. As Sgt. Bash came over to the CPZ, The Grim Reaper got out of the CPZ, and Big Nipper drove at its, getting its lifting claws underneath, then lifted The Grim Reaper off the ground and started carrying it across the arena.

"Big Nipper is a kilo heavier than Grim Reaper, and is certainly starting this very well. The underdogs, as I mentioned before, no-one really has noticed them getting through to this stage! It's a very well built machine..."
— Jonathan Pearce as Big Nipper carries The Grim Reaper
The Grimreaper vs Big Nipper

The Grim Reaper flips Big Nipper into the wall

As the two got near the bottom of the arena, The Grim Reaper fired its flipper to get off of Big Nipper's lifting claws. Big Nipper turned around to prevent crashing into the arena wall, and pushed against The Grim Reaper, but because it did not lower its lifting claws, The Grim Reaper easily got the flipper under the front and flipped Big Nipper over. Big Nipper tried moving away, but drove into the arena wall. Cassius Chrome came over to the CPZ, blocking Big Nipper's escape, and as Big Nipper tried turning to fight back, The Grim Reaper got under it again and flipped it against the side wall. Big Nipper quickly got off the wall using its lifting claws, but The Grim Reaper pinned it in the corner, using its flipper to pin Big Nipper down.

"A rattling good display so far, from both these machines."

The Grim Reaper pushes Big Nipper into Cassius Chrome

Big Nipper turned, and Cassius Chrome pushed into the back of The Grim Reaper, so The Grim Reaper chased Big Nipper out of the CPZ. The Grim Reaper reversed into Big Nipper and pinned it with its lifting claws against the wall, then flipped it up, getting it between the flipper and the body as it landed, and pushed it into Cassius Chrome. Big Nipper raised its lifting claws up as high as they could go to prevent Cassius Chrome getting a good hit at it, and The Grim Reaper reversed, allowing Big Nipper to get down, but Big Nipper made the mistake of reversing into Cassius Chrome, and The Grim Reaper flipped it against the House Robot, who pinned it against the wall.

Big Nipper pins The Grim Reaper on the arena wall

The Grim Reaper tried to flip Big Nipper, and actually got its flipper between it and Cassius Chrome and lifted them both up together. This allowed Big Nipper to get free, and it reversed out of the CPZ, but reversed into the angle grinder. The Grim Reaper turned and got under Big Nipper, with both robots driving onto the flame pit as it did so, and The Grim Reaper flipped Big Nipper over, then pushed it against the wall before flipping it over again. The Grim Reaper got under Big Nipper and pushed it against the wall, then turned away. Big Nipper drove past The Grim Reaper, and turned around as The Grim Reaper drove after it. The Grim Reaper tried getting under Big Nipper's side, but Big Nipper drove away. The Grim Reaper chased Big Nipper, but Big Nipper got its lifting claws under The Grim Reaper's front and lifted it up as it pushed The Grim Reaper all the way down the arena. Big Nipper pinned The Grim Reaper in a CPZ and lifted it up against the wall.

The Grim Reaper vs Big Nipper

Big Nipper ends in the ascendancy

Big Nipper reversed and The Grim Reaper fired the flipper to get back on its wheels, but Sgt. Bash came into the CPZ, blocking their escape. The House Robot bit into the front of The Grim Reaper and pulled it out of the CPZ, whilst Big Nipper got away. Sgt. Bash let The Grim Reaper go, and it went after Big Nipper, but drove onto its lifting claws, and Big Nipper pushed it down the arena, into Sgt. Bash's CPZ. The Grim Reaper accidentally turned into Sgt. Bash, but quickly turned and drove out, but Big Nipper was waiting for it, and got one of its lifting claws under The Grim Reaper. Big Nipper tried lifting The Grim Reaper, but it fell off as it lifted it. Big Nipper drove up the arena, nearly driving into Cassius Chrome, who was out of his CPZ. The Grim Reaper chased after it, quickly catching up, and tried to get underneath it. The Grim Reaper got the flipper under one of Big Nipper's lifting claws, but Big Nipper reversed, causing The Grim Reaper to miss its flip. As The Grim Reaper turned, Big Nipper got its lifting claws under the back of The Grim Reaper and pushed it, lifting it up a little, and ramming it into the top arena wall. Big Nipper lifted it a little more and time ran out.

"Big Nipper; I think is on top. Not physically, but I think they ended in the ascendancy Judges, what do you think? This could be a surprise you know!"
— Jonathan Pearce, as the battle reaches its conclusion

The battle went to the judges and they went for The Grim Reaper, on the basis of higher aggression, but this decision proved unpopular, not just with the audience, some of whom booed the decision, but also with Craig Charles.

"The Judges said it was extremely close, and they just thought that Grim Reaper was slightly more aggressive. At first, he came out of the starting blocks a lot quicker than you, but as the fight wore on, you came back, and you came back, and you looked like the stronger robot, to me, at the end!"
— Craig Charles explains to the Big Nipper why he disagreed with the decision

Heat Winner: The Grim Reaper

"Poor old Big Nipper, couldn't get its claws, around the grimmest of reapers, on Robot Wars!"
— Craig Charles' sign-off

Trivia[]

"I thought if we had another day or so there we might have been able to get something running...rather different from BattleBots where almost all the robots turn up unfinished and you have three or four days to get them ready."
— Team Terrorhurtz on the Seventh Wars disqualification[2]
  • This Heat marked the only occasion where a seeded robot was barred from competing entirely, with third seed Terrorhurtz being disqualified for a behind-the-scenes technicality. The team had arrived at the studio arrived at the studio with an unfinished Terrorhurtz, and were barred entry to the building on a "robots must be completed" clause. To explain their absence from the series, the show filmed the disqualification as if it happened just before the battle.

The incorrect result after the second Round 1 battle

  • This Heat contained four robots that would become very successful in live events hosted by Roaming Robots - Kan-Opener and Barbaric Response, along with future FRA UK champions Big Nipper and Terrorhurtz. However, Kan-Opener fell in Round 1 for the third series in a row, and Barbaric Response also lost in Round 1. Meanwhile, Terrorhurtz, the third seed, was disqualified before it was due to fight, making Big Nipper the only Roaming Robots competitor in the heat to pass the first round.
  • This Heat contained three judges' decisions, all of which involved The Grim Reaper. The only two matches not to go to the judges contained Jackson Wallop.
  • The two Heat Finalists in this Heat lost to the winner and runner-up of Series 5 (Razer and Bigger Brother) in their only other appearances.
  • This Heat featured the first occasion of the Arena Floor Flipper flipping a robot out of the arena, flipping out the featherweight G2 in the Special Event.
  • This Heat featured only one newcomer in Gyrobot.
  • This episode was released on DVD by The Sun to promote Jetix and Fox Kids.
  • After the second melee, the board displaying the results wrongly showed that Killerkat, rather than Gyrobot, had qualified along with Jackson Wallop.
