"Don't mess with Texas!"
— Team Bot-Head during their robot introduction

Bot-Ugly was a competitor robot from Season 1 of Robot Wars: Extreme Warriors. Its name is a pun on the insult 'Butt-Ugly'.

Team Bot-Head also fought in the House Robot Rebellion with loanerbot The Green House, but lost in the first round again.

Bot-Ugly enters the arena upside down in the Civil War.

Bot-Ugly was armed with a horizontal clamping weapon, lined with spikes, that crushed inwards using two parallel bars. The crushing bars were operated by a 8,000 lb. electric winch and pulley system, and the robot had two 12-Volt batteries, one to power the weapon, the other to power the robot, through two 24 volt wheelchair motors. The crushing bars were made of aircraft grade aluminium, It was invertible, but had exposed wheels. It was decorated with eyes and a mouth, and warning stripes. The robot was built over three months of planning and construction, at a cost of $3000[1]. However, the robot suffered from a lack of power due to only having two batteries.

"Due to the weight constraints imposed by Robot Wars, we were unable to include a necessary third battery, which caused the robot to be somewhat lacking in power. The electric wheelchair motors took most available power from the batteries, leaving little power to drive the winch. However, the design worked in latching on to our opponent so well that it took the crew 15 minutes to separate the two robots after our bout."

The Team[]

"Moulter, an attorney with a Jacksonville Corporation, saw the show and thought about the idea of building a robot. He shared his idea with David Simmons. ... The two men met at church about three years ago and discovered they both loved challenging projects. Moulton had built a three-person Hovercraft that reached speeds of up to 40mph, and Simmons had built a "Joe Dobson" model telescope that clearly shows the rings of Saturn. ... Both men spent 20 hours each week working in Moulton's garage."
— The Tyler Morning Telegraph on Team Bot-Head[3]

Bot-Ugly was entered by Team Bot-Head, a team from Tyler in Texas. The team consisted of Jim Moulter, the team capatain and founder of the team, David Simmonds, who designed the robot using CAD software[4] and drove it, along with Kristi Simmonds.

Outside of Robot Wars, father-and-son Lee and Kyle Bannerman were also members of the team. Lee was the team's welder, and Kyle helped with the construction. The two competed with the team when they entered Battlebots.

"Kyle is the team's heavy lifter, gopher, and training welder. When Kyle is not chasing girls, he occasionally stops by the shop to build on the bot."

Bot-Ugly faced Tricerabot, Sobek, loanerbot Coffin-Bot, The Revolutionist and Unibite in the US Championship.

It was attacked by Tricerabot, Unibite and Sobek. Then they tried clamping Unibite, before backing into Sobek. Bot-Ugly was then seen being rammed by Tricerabot in the background. It was the seen twitching near the top of the arena and being pressured by Tricerabot and Sobek. Although it survived for a judges' decision, The Revolutionist was given the sole spot in the next round, therefore eliminating Bot-Ugly from the US Championship.

Bot-Ugly also competed in the US Civil War representing the Confederacy, and in the first round faced Spike, a loanerbot which was representing the Union.

Bot-Ugly started the match upside down, so that it could grab hold of Spike, and crush it. Both robots ran into each other and Spike tried hitting Bot-Ugly with the axe, but missed and instead got its weapon stuck in the ground. Bot-Ugly took advantage of this and drove around to the side of Spike and clamped hold of it. Eventually Spike got its axe free and hit Bot-Ugly on top of the clamps.

Spike continued to try and strike Bot-Ugly with its axe but missed. Both robots then got stuck in the CPZ where Shunt and Matilda separated them. Matilda then hit Bot-Ugly with her flywheel, which Bot-Ugly withstood. Spike then axed Bot-Ugly through the middle of the robot. The Pit opened and both Spike and Shunt had their axes stuck in Bot-Ugly, trying to edge it towards the pit. With Spike still stuck to Bot-Ugly, Matilda pushed both robots in but as Bot-Ugly was in the pit first, they were eliminated.
